Skilled Foundation Concrete GPR Inspection Prior to Overbuild at a Hospital in South Philadelphia, PA
Project Description:
The engineering and construction design team needed an inspection performed to overbuild and perform some renovations at a hospital in South Philadelphia, PA. All “grouted cells” versus potential “voided cells” of the foundation wall and concrete masonry units (CMUs) needed to be identified for the engineering team. In addition, any existing electrical conduits or potential utilities needed to be traced and identified. The concrete-GPR was used to identify the vertical and horizontal reinforcements of the exterior wall. Grouted/filled CMU-blocks as well as empty/void-space CMU-blocks were identified. “Line-tracing” was performed with the Radio-Frequency “RF” equipment to account for any electrical conduits and utilities that would impact the construction. American Geophysics was able to give both the engineering and construction teams everything they needed to move forward with the overbuild.
