Investigation of Load Capacity for Concrete Deck in Manhattan, NYC, New York
Project Description:
This project was performed in Manhattan, NYC as part of an “over-build” and investigation of current load capacity of a client-specified concrete deck. We had to perform the following tasks: sizing rebar, measuring rebar thickness, and utility or conduit locating.
The client was not only interested in identifying the different structural components within the slab, but having data collected of the thickness/size of the rebar in the concrete deck. In addition, the client needed any electrical conduits or other wiring systems identified potentially existing within the concrete slab. In the example photos, the technician is actually combining using two pieces of equipment in conjunction with each other. He is inducing radio frequencies onto the potential conduits, and then able to contrast them in the 3D concrete grid scans performed over the selected areas.
The two new pieces of technology used to successfully complete the project, above the client’s expectations were:
- 1. Proceq Profoscope for identifying size and thickness of rebar
- 2. Proceq GP8000 Concrete Scanner
We also are used the RD8000 RF Pipe and Cable Locator as well.
