Successfully Completed Electromagnetic Profiling of Construction Site in Little Falls, NJ
Project Description:
Our client needed an Electromagnetic Profile of their property to measure the conductivity, collect in-phase data, as well as determine the presence of any subsurface metallic anomalies consistent with underground storage tanks (USTs), for heating oil, as well as any associated piping. All of this needed to be performed while the drill team was on-site collecting soil-boring samples across the property in Little Falls, New Jersey.
Data from the EM31-MK2 was collected across the site along transects with the positions recorded from a GPS receiver. The effective penetration depth for the EM31 was approximately 12 ft below the ground surface (BGS). The data recorded with the locations allows the data to be contoured. Both the terrain conductivity and in-phase data were contoured as shown in the provided maps. The area was fairly homogenous with a trend toward higher conductivity from east to west. The highest recorded values were due to the metal fence on the western and southern sides of the site. An area of higher conductivity crosses the site in the northern portion of the investigation area. The in-phase data was similarly homogeneous except for along the fence. No subsurface data consistent with heating oil USTs were collected or detected on-site, nor its associated piping. All the soil-boring samples were successfully collected and completed on-site by the drill team.
